Department of Aerohydrodynamics is the oldest special department of the Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev - KAI. Its history is inextricably linked with the development and formation of the university.

About

The Department for Aerohydrodynamics was created at the same time with the university in 1932. Its history is inseparably linked with the development and formation of the university. Professor Nikolai Chetaev was the first head of the department. In the following years he became a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of Mechanics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Lenin Prize Laureate.

The department offers the following academic full-time degree programs:

24.03.04 "Aircraft building" (specialization  "Light, ultralight aviation"), 24.04.04 "Aircraft building", master’s program "Aerodynamic Design of Aircraft"

Areas of research

Design of aircraft.

Selection and numerical modeling of design parameters of aircraft.

Experimental aerodynamics.

Investigation of integral and distributed aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft and new generation vehicles using modern tools.

Computational fluid mechanics (hydromechanics)

Computational hydromechanics, structural mechanics and aeroelasticity of aircraft.

Dynamics of helicopter flight, simulation modelling.

Investigation of the dynamics, strength and aeroelasticity of rotorcrafts. 

Equipment

The laboratories of the Department for Aerohydrodynamics are equipped with modern computers, instruments and installations necessary to organize the educational process and arry out research at a high level. The wind tunnel is used for laboratory works and research projects.

Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology

Institute of Aeronautical Engineering and Technology (IAET) of KNRTU-KAI was established in December 2003 and is integrated in the structure of the research and industrial divisions of the university engaged in scientific and technical support of the development, production and operation of aviation equipment.

The main departments of the institute:

• - Department for Standardization and Quality Management System
• - Department of Strength and Aeroelasticity of Aviation Structures
• - Department of Experimental Aerodynamics

The scientific potential of IAET, its technical equipment and high qualification of the personnel allow to solve operatively many scientific and technical problems arising in the development of modern aviation equipment and engineering products. Dr. Alexander Nosov, PhD, is the Head of the Institute.
